OVER 2 DOZENS FIRETRUCKS ANSWERED THE ALARM

Saturday morning of December 17, 2011, at Barangay Laging Handa, Quezon City,  at around 930am, the smell of smoke caught our household's attention. There was a fire nearby Timog Avenue, the neighbors say.

I picked up my compact camera and started to walk towards Timog Avenue. Upon taking the turn at the corner, I already saw firetrucks and people in front of the restaurant, Danny's Grill.  I moved in closer and saw more volunteer firefighters, some in their dressed up SUVs, their own firefighting units, in ambulances and their private vehicles. The fire was already controlled and as I was standing at the corner, I could see more firetrucks arriving. I never realized that volunteer firefighters abound.  All of those that I saw , more than two dozens of them, were from Quezon City.  This do not count yet those that are based in Manila , Makati and the other surrounding cities.Apparently, there are special groups who have taken it upon themselves to contribute their time and money to become volunteer firemen.  It became however a source of pride for these groups to have the best equipped and best looking firetrucks and other auxiliary vehicles.

Take a look at these photos:

Aside from Barangays having their own firetrucks, additional markings of names of politicians who have supposedly facilitated the purchase of the units are also written on the them.

Doesn't it give some amount of comfort knowing that the spirit of volunteerism is alive in the hearts of many of our fellowmen when it comes to firefighting?

The much relieved owner of the establishment is seen talking with the firemen in the photos below:

Black Nazarene 2012

The Feast of Black Nazarene, whose image is enshrined at the Quiapo Church in Manila , is being held every January 9 of the year.  It is attended by devotees who troup to the image or wait at the route where it shall pass. By estimate, around 8m devotees are expected to participate in this year's procession.

Herewith are some photos taken in the early morning as people were just beginning to spill in at the Luneta Grandstand.
