I picked up my compact camera and started to walk towards Timog Avenue. Upon taking the turn at the corner, I already saw firetrucks and people in front of the restaurant, Danny's Grill. I moved in closer and saw more volunteer firefighters, some in their dressed up SUVs, their own firefighting units, in ambulances and their private vehicles. The fire was already controlled and as I was standing at the corner, I could see more firetrucks arriving. I never realized that volunteer firefighters abound. All of those that I saw , more than two dozens of them, were from Quezon City. This do not count yet those that are based in Manila , Makati and the other surrounding cities.Apparently, there are special groups who have taken it upon themselves to contribute their time and money to become volunteer firemen. It became however a source of pride for these groups to have the best equipped and best looking firetrucks and other auxiliary vehicles.

Doesn't it give some amount of comfort knowing that the spirit of volunteerism is alive in the hearts of many of our fellowmen when it comes to firefighting?
